I gotta show you this picture Iβve got on my phone.
Yesterday afternoon, I was tucked away in the office, knee-deep in the usual lamb sales work, popping out every so often to the barn for lamb checks. My phone buzzedβit was our neighbour Adam, the excavator guy youβve heard me talk about before (the one who almost got cattle last year, but didnβt). He and his little girl Reese were out for a drive and wondered if they could stop by to see the sheep.
βWell of course you can,β I said. βMeet you at the barn.β
A few minutes later, there we were. Adam crouched down, cradling a newborn lamb in his arms while Reese leaned in, tiny hand stretched out, gently stroking soft wool. The lamb latched onto a bottle, and for a moment the whole world just⦠slowed down.
Now, Iβve been doing this long enough that bottle-feeding lambs is almost second nature. But standing there with Adam and Reese, I saw it all differently. Through their eyes, it wasnβt just another choreβit was a wonder. A living, breathing reminder that sometimes the best parts of life sneak up on us in the simplest of ways.
No big event, no perfectly planned visit. Just a neighbour, his little girl, and a lamb.
It struck me as one of those fabric-of-life moments, the kind that doesnβt seem like much at the time, but tucks itself quietly into memory. The kind you donβt plan, but you carry with you anyway.
Maybe thatβs the point. Life isnβt made up of the grand plans or the perfect daysβitβs these little interactions, these pauses between the rush of everything else. And if weβre paying attention, they remind us to embrace the moment weβre in.
So thatβs my reflection this week. No big farm mishaps, no runaway sheep (thank goodness). Just a simple, good moment I thought was worth sharing.
Until next week,
Farmer Rod
