🐑👨‍👧 A neighbour, a lamb, and a moment worth keeping ❤️

I gotta show you this picture I’ve got on my phone.

Yesterday afternoon, I was tucked away in the office, knee-deep in the usual lamb sales work, popping out every so often to the barn for lamb checks. My phone buzzed—it was our neighbour Adam, the excavator guy you’ve heard me talk about before (the one who almost got cattle last year, but didn’t). He and his little girl Reese were out for a drive and wondered if they could stop by to see the sheep.

“Well of course you can,” I said. “Meet you at the barn.”

A few minutes later, there we were. Adam crouched down, cradling a newborn lamb in his arms while Reese leaned in, tiny hand stretched out, gently stroking soft wool. The lamb latched onto a bottle, and for a moment the whole world just… slowed down.

Now, I’ve been doing this long enough that bottle-feeding lambs is almost second nature. But standing there with Adam and Reese, I saw it all differently. Through their eyes, it wasn’t just another chore—it was a wonder. A living, breathing reminder that sometimes the best parts of life sneak up on us in the simplest of ways.

No big event, no perfectly planned visit. Just a neighbour, his little girl, and a lamb.

It struck me as one of those fabric-of-life moments, the kind that doesn’t seem like much at the time, but tucks itself quietly into memory. The kind you don’t plan, but you carry with you anyway.

Maybe that’s the point. Life isn’t made up of the grand plans or the perfect days—it’s these little interactions, these pauses between the rush of everything else. And if we’re paying attention, they remind us to embrace the moment we’re in.

So that’s my reflection this week. No big farm mishaps, no runaway sheep (thank goodness). Just a simple, good moment I thought was worth sharing.

Until next week,

Farmer Rod
