Meet Oscar: A Little Lamb with a Big Will to Live

Todays story brings you an true inside look at farm reality,

Starting the day on the farm always brings its share of surprises, and yesterday was no exception. Amid the usual morning chores, an unexpected challenge turned into a story of resilience and a bit of humor that I just had to share with you.

One of our ewes, ready to lamb any day, wasn't looking her best this morning. It was clear she needed help, and after a quick assessment, I realized this was a job for our vet. The situation was delicate, and we prepared ourselves for a tough outcome.

As we were handling the situation, dealing with the realities of life and death on a farm, something unexpected happened. A garbage pail we were using in the process showed signs of life. Yes, you read that right. Amidst what we thought was a loss, a little lamb decided he wasn't ready to give up just yet.

With some quick work from our vet, including what can only be described as lamb CPR, we were both surprised and overjoyed to see this little fighter pull through. And in honor of his unconventional entry into the world, he’s been dubbed Oscar. His namesake? Well, let's just say it's a clever nod to a certain character known for making the most out of a similarly unconventional living situation.

Oscar is proving to be quite the character—full of life and not ready to let his story end just yet. It’s these moments that remind us of the resilience inherent to farm life, filled with its ups and downs.

Take care,

Your Farmer, Rod
